Why are people suddenly leaving the community I joined?

In the part where you can request items from other players I asked for 8 fish but after they were gathered I found my fishing hut thing can only hold 5 max at the moment and I can't make any other requests tell I upgrade the storage compacity, is there a way I can fix this? its really slowed y progression down a lot and I'm slowly starting to lose interest in the game because of that, I've already tried to contact the support team but got no response so if someone knows how to fix this perhaps cancel the request I would be really grateful.
