  • Control the center of the board to give your pieces more mobility.
  • Always be aware of your opponent's threats and possible captures.
  • Develop your minor pieces (knights and bishops) early in the game.
  • Castle early to keep your king safe and connect your rooks.
  • Don't move the same piece multiple times in the opening unless necessary.

  • Use pins and skewers to win material from your opponent.
  • Perform a discovered attack to create double threats.
  • Try fork attacks to attack multiple pieces at once.
  • Use decoy tactics to lure your opponent's pieces away from important squares.
  • Explore zwischenzug (intermezzo) moves to surprise your opponent.

  • Control the center with pawns and pieces.
  • Make sure your king is safe, either castled or well-protected.
  • Create pawn weaknesses in your opponent's camp to exploit later.
  • Coordinate your pieces to work together and support each other.
  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of each piece and use them accordingly.
