- Choose the right size pan: For a doll cake, you will need a dome-shaped cake pan that is at least 7 inches in diameter. A pan with a removable bottom is ideal, as it will make it easier to remove the cake from the pan once it's baked.
- Prepare the pan: Grease the pan with cooking spray or butter, then dust with flour. This will help the cake release easily from the pan once it's baked.
- Bake the cake: Use your favorite cake recipe or mix to bake the cake. Once the cake is baked and cooled, remove it from the pan and trim the top so it's level.
- Carve the cake: Use a small serrated knife to cut a hole in the center of the cake, about 2 inches deep. This will be where the doll will sit. Place the doll in the hole to make sure it fits, then remove it and set it aside.
- Frost the cake: Apply a thin layer of frosting all over the cake to create a crumb coat. This will help the final layer of frosting adhere to the cake. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Decorate the cake: Once the crumb coat is set, apply a final layer of frosting to the cake. You can use a piping bag and tip to create designs and decorations. Be sure to cover the doll's legs with frosting to create a skirt.
- Add the doll: Place the doll in the hole in the center of the cake, pushing it down until it's secure. Use a small spatula to smooth the frosting around the doll's waist to create the illusion of a dress.
- Decorate further: You can add additional decorations to the cake, such as edible flowers or sprinkles, to make it even more festive.
