Tips:
  • Start with the easy squares and work your way up to the harder ones.
  • Look for rows, columns, or regions that only have one missing number and try to fill it in.
  • Make notes of possible numbers for each square to help you keep track of what's possible.
Tricks:
  • Look for pairs or triplets of numbers within a row, column, or region. If you can eliminate those numbers from other squares in that same row, column, or region, you may be able to solve for other numbers.
  • Look for squares that only have two possible numbers left. If you can eliminate one of the possibilities, you can solve for the other number.
  • Use the process of elimination to figure out which numbers belong in each square.
Strategies:
  • X-Wing Strategy: If you find two rows that have the same two empty cells with the same two candidates, then the two candidates must belong in those cells. This strategy can be applied to columns as well.
  • Swordfish Strategy: Similar to the X-Wing strategy, but with three rows or columns instead of two.
  • Backtracking: If you get stuck, go back to a square you know you've solved and try again from there.
