We speed up, faster and faster. We start to leave the ground! I close my eyes and feel the pressure in the cabin weigh down on my shoulders. I let the sensations carry me away, and vertigo hits. Just as Im about to scream, I try to save face and maintain control. I feel a hand on mine. I cant say Im not a little bit overwhelmed by this gesture. We usually bicker, its little dance. But this... This is new. "Good evening Madam, Sir. Im Carlton, your captain, and Ill b...e your pilot on flight to Moscow." The flight attendant comes to stand in front of us with an oxygen mask... Or rather an anxiety mask! "Turbulence is expected during the flight. If the cabin should become depressurized, an oxygen mask will automatically fall down in front of you." Oh my God! I turn to look at him. He gives me an amused smile. I blush and realize my behavior is ridiculous. Hes trying to do his best to make me feel better and Im overreacting. "I like your face when youre panicking. You look like a 4-year-old kid. Its actually pretty cute..." As if the gods of aviation had absolutely zero pity for me, just when he finishes his sentence, theres a sudden change in altitude. I choke bake a scream and grab onto my seat. I close my eyes and wait for my imminent demise. Suddenly I forget everything. Hes all I can see. I hear a beep and open my eyes again. The cabin lights have been dimmed. My stress is at its maximum, but he quickly brings me back to reality. He cups my face in his hands and looks me in the eyes. "Im here with you. I told you, I wont let anything happen to you."
