[Edit Yes, If not completely obvious, this was an April fools post! ] For those of you with widescreen monitors, we will be adding support for a new variant, "Long Chess" Invented by the ruling classes in medieval Europe who played on their lengthy feasting tables. Pawn promotion is rare.... Popular with Henry the VIII, who was a notoriously bad loser.

Self-isolation isn't much fun for anyone, so if you know someone who might enjoy a game of chess and a chat, you can invite them by entering their email address in the "Opponent" box when creating a new game. This will create the game and invite your friend to join. Link

Polite reminder If you do not wish to receive email move notifications, please just turn them *off*. (Link in every email) *DO NOT REPORT THEM AS SPAM!* If you do so, you will affect reputation, and therefore, ability to send email to those who rely on it. (A very small minority have done this, but it is quite damaging, so please keep it in mind.)

"Temporary unavailability of game moves for completed games between 2001 and 2012" Game moves will be unavailable for all completed games from 2001 to 2012 for a number of weeks. As from this morning all games are complete (we declared one final inactive game a draw), and we will be experimenting with how best to archive these. This is a temporary situation - and only the played moves & chat messages will be unavailable for this time.... Game explorer remains unaffected, so games can be analysed there if absolutely necessary. This work will take place in the coming weeks, and although not necessary, you can download PGNs if you urgently need to access to your legacy games during this period.
