The Universal Carrier is a common name describing a family of light armoured tracked vehicles built by Vickers-Armstrongs. The vehicle was used widely by British Commonwealth forces during the Second World War. The Welrod is a British bolt action, magazine fed, suppressed pistol devised during World War II. It was used primarily by the British SOE but was also used by the American OSS and Resistance forces. The exclusion of a pistol grip was apparently done to help conceal the weapon's purpose and in some groups it was called a "bicycle pump" due to its innocuous look with the magazine/grip removed. The Welrod is provided with sights marked with fluorescent paint for use in low ligh...t conditions. Although it has a maximum suggested range of 25 yards (22.86 meters) it was intended for use far closerup to point-blank range. The muzzle end of the gun is cut away so that it can be fired in direct contact with the target. This reduces the sound levels even further and removes the chance of missing. The pistol is manually operated using a rotary bolt, locking with two lugs. Loading is performed with a pull/push action using the round knurled knob to the rear of the weapon. The trigger is single stage with a simple safety at the back of the magazine housing. The ISU-152 is a Soviet self-propelled gun developed and used during World War II. It was unofficially nicknamed zveroboy ("beast killer") in response to several large German tanks and guns coming into service, including Tigers and Panthers. The 152.4 mm gun used a number of powerful (shell and charge) ammunition. Some of these ammunition had a 43.56 kg high-explosive shell, or a 48.78 kg armour-piercing shell, or the heaviest of all, the 53-G-545 (53--545) long-range concre...te-piercing ammunition with a 56 kg shell. The ISU-152 was used for infantry and tank support, and attack on fortified positions in a direct fire role, for support on the battlefield in an indirect fire role, and for fight against tanks with a direct fire. To minimize the risks of being knocked out by Panzerfaust-equipped units during urban operations, the ISU-152 usually acted in one or two vehicle detachments alongside infantry squads for protection. The infantry squad would include a specialist sniper, some submachine gunners and sometimes a flamethrower. he ISU-152's 90 mm of sloped frontal armor, provided excellent frontal protection from the 75mm KwK 40 gun of the ubiquitous Panzer IV and StuG family at all but the closest ranges.
