The Flying Ace in World War I -- [Der Rote Baron] Before World War I,no wars had promoted development of technology as rapidly as World War I.In the past,soldiers went to the front-line by train or on foot.Wars were mostly fought on the ground.Air warfare had not been considered seriously yet. A Unique Christmas Truce in World War I What is Christmas Truce ? A truce is a pause in fighting between two sides. And Christmas Truce took place in 1914. So what happened in that time ? When World War I started , war fire covered all over Europe.Most of wars on the western front was in the trenches.The German and French armies confronted each other. On 24th of December during World War I , something strange happened.Christmas songs rang out from the trenches. Two si...des both stopped the war. Some soldiers walked out from trenches and shake hands with each other. Some even exchange belongings with the enemies as gifts. At that moment , they forgot about pain and tried to feel peace. On 7th of November , 2006 , Bonhams auctioned a letter. This letter was written by a soldier. It was bought by a singer for 14,000. This letter recorded the events of Christmas in 1914. The topic of the letter British Expeditionary Army Friday , 25th of December , 1914 The beginning of the letter [My dear mother , This will be one of the most memorable Christmases I have ever had and would probably have in the future.German soldiers began to fill the trenches with lights. They came to us and wished us a merry Christmas. Some of soldiers came to visit their battlefronts too.] Also , there was a similar plot between the German and British armies.They didnt stop the war formally.But trenches were decorated in the Ipel area of Belgium by German armies. They sang Christmas carols in the trenches. British soldiers sang songs in English as a return.Afterwards, they begun to exchange small gifts like food, cigarettes and alcohol. The wars disappear on that night. Suddenly , the silence was broken by the kick of a football. On that night , about 100 soldiers from two sides join in the football match. Some soldiers said that they would never forget this unique Christmas night.
