As of the latest v1.2.5 update, higher end PCs are now free to expand to the cast limit to 50 characters in the ring at the same time! That was always indirectly possible via the "Surprise Intervals" match format, but now it's officially possible before your eyes. I could push it even further, but it's the concept of wrestling itself that could not cope with more! That's something to look forward to if other free-roaming adventures come to the platform, which is looking more

The booking mode that puts the "empire" in Wrestling Empire has now reached every corner of the world - as it's simultaneously available on PC, mobiles, and a major console at no extra cost! It's still early days for the concept and it's being refined all the time, but there's plenty here to keep you busy over the summer. From this point on, the game will blossom a little in every direction - so we can hope to see new moves again after 6 weeks of focused booking. But until th

An unexpected benefit of Wrestling Empire coming to Steam is that the original Wrestling Revolution has also been tagged in! It was originally supposed to be released on PC in 2012, but was down-voted into minus figures back when trolls dictated the narrative. Millions of downloads later, publishers are thawing to the idea of having the People's Champion pass through their territory. Too little too late to set the world on fire, of course, but it's good that diehard fans can

Thanks to its unprecedented reach, Wrestling Revolution 3D has become the 1st combat sports game to win the title of 100 million downloads - beating out UFC, boxing, and WWE combined! In fact, the only other games of ANY kind to ever take things this far have been billion-dollar franchises with the full weight of the media behind them - whereas we did it with no press except bad press. Of course, I'd prefer to have that many eyeballs on the new & improved Wrestling Empire - b

Wrestling Empire already has unprecedented reach as a 3D sim on mobiles as well as a major console - and PC will soon be tagging in to rule every corner of the world! Exactly when is up to you, as we're back to having to prove there's an audience for a project that has no press except bad press. The only way this is going to work is if certain performance goals are consistently met, so I'll be looking for enough people to "wishlist" it into existence and support its continued

After weeks of playing catch-up, the Switch version has finally pressed ahead with barbed wire, 6-sided rings AND ladders in one huge update available now! It'll come to mobiles soon enough, but I think Nintendo users deserve a little time alone with some exclusive content. As ever, you can peruse the full list of changes towards the back of the online manual Link

I've analysed the Android version from every angle and have re-released it with a lower resolution as standard - and a handful of further display options. My experience is that performance is twice as reliable, so we'll see how many more devices that tags in. I'm not a miracle worker, however, and the fact remains that this is a console game that is bending over backwards to keep mobiles in the loop. Considering Android users already have old-school wrestling in both 2D & 3D, I didn't imagine there would be quite so much hysteria about getting a hi res addition to the family?! This is at least the best thing for reaching the masses, and then we can gradually take the brakes off as technology catches up. Link

Even then you would have to play the game for 5 years solid before it even begins to match what the Switch accomplished this morning. But I'm betting on myself, and I'm looking forward to linking the longevity of the game with its worth. Historically, the wrestling games have been bought once (if I'm lucky!) and then played for years - with very little basis for continued work. Whereas subscriptions will give me a mandate to keep people invested from one year to the next. That doesn't necessarily mean I'll work on it forever, but if I drop the ball this experiment will never cost you more than $3.99. Realistically, I estimate it will cost the average user $8 - which would make this new & improved sim cost LESS than the old one did in its prime! Even that assumes the price will never go down over the years, which is perfectly possible once the initial risk has been assuaged. And this is all *if* you feel the Pro experience is worth investing in at all, as there's still plenty to play for free Link

Even in handheld mode, up to 3 can be loaded into a match instantly with no damage to performance. It gives me more freedom creatively to have invasion angles where an entire roster or faction could descend on the arena! It's also nice to know that free-roam will have fewer limits, as you literally walk into a locker room and see everybody you would expect to. Even looking beyond wrestling, it bodes well for 3D remakes of School Days or Hard Time to have rooms full of people with fewer compromises. The mechanism you see here actually has more in common with Extra Lives than anything we've seen in wrestling before. Previously, I had to "predict" who would be needed in a scene and load them in advance. Whereas this is all totally spontaneous and allows anything to happen at any moment! The only casualty at the minute is that the sound card (and the crowd!) has a panic attack trying to make sense of so many triggers, but there are solutions to that if this progresses beyond a gimmick. I'm experimenting with titles in Wrestling School (and having fun naming them!) to give a bit more meaning to your stay there, as well as something to put on your resume for getting signed. It should draw out the recruitment process a little longer, as promoters wait to see you hold at least one title in developmental. I've also made it easier to assign champions like any other "role" in the editor, so even console users can do it at the touch of a button. The new title histories are so robust that they even record changes you make there too!

The 2D games have enjoyed a new lease of life as high resolution iPhone apps, and now the 3D ones have received similar treatment - filling the screen of any device in either landscape orientation. The only trade-off with the 3D apps is that the 2D displays (such as buttons) get slightly elongated whereas the 3D display does not. That's probably as good as it's going to get before Unity truly revolutionizes what we can expect from my 3D apps! This is also where we say goodbye

I'm very happy with a fresh intake of remastered moves. Holds like the Guillotine or Kimura are now accessible via a direct front move instead of having to be attached to a DDT (although they still can be). Not only are move animations smoother as standard, but I'm finding new connections between them all the time! The good thing about making the "same" game every couple of years is that I get to build on what worked while improving what didn't. I've yet to see the downsides that everybody else talks about.

I feel it's important to use my creative freedom to press the buttons that nobody else wants to press. Inspired by Jesse Ventura, a controversial new storyline allows you to weigh in on unions in wrestling - either supporting them through to improving the contracts of everybody on the roster, or selling them out to put yourself over with the promoter. You may think you know which way you'll lean, but when you're the one that has to give creative control and guarantees to everyone on the roster you may feel differently! This is also the first in an ambitious new series of storylines that play out over several weeks.

If you hold out for the new "Nepotism" clause, any existing managers or partners will join you on the same terms. On the flip-side, this can make it even harder to sign well-connected people such as Hogan who will require you to give jobs to his boys!

Much like elsewhere in the world, a civil war is brewing between those who expect things to be free and those who accept that they cannot be. Strict new advertising regulations will improve the user experience for you, but wipe out revenue for developers. There was a time when advertising could fill in the gaps and make games as free as any TV show - and I was proud to be at the forefront of it - but the party's over and you'll see developers revert back to seeking investment.... I'm fortunate to have already side-stepped into console development, so I can at least focus on building a paying audience there and then come back to see what can be offered on mobiles. I actually have a vision for the future that is fair for everybody, but it remains to be seen if an audience raised on 8 years of free games can accept any other reality. Link
