Can you guess the meaning of the English phrase "miss the boat?" Idioms are a lot of fun! They can teach us many things about a language, a culture or new ways to express ourselves. Idioms are phrases in a language that have silly or non-literal meanings. They give us colorful ways to say something ordinary and making learning new languages exciting! When speaking English, if you want to say someone missed an opportunity or a chance, you can say they "missed the boat!"SO, what were some of the guesses your little ones gave?

Here's a fun way to practice language at home! Have a treasure hunt Whether your little one is practicing simple vocabulary or how to give directions, a treasure hunt will keep them wanting to learn more. All they will need is a pencil and some sticky notes (regular paper works just fine ) and of course...some TREASURE! For littles ones, help them to first plan out their 'route' by walking through each of the rooms they want to use! Then, have them tell you the directions for each room, write it down and stick it in a visible place for others to discover the surprise. This activity is also a great way to promote and develop spatial awareness while keeping them active and engaged. Have you had a treasure hunt at home or in school? Let us know how it went!
