NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has discovered its first Earth-size planet in its star's habitable zone, the range of distances where conditions may be just right to allow the presence of liquid water on the surface. Scientists confirmed the find, called TOI 7 d, using NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and have modeled the planet's potential environments to help inform future observations. On Wednesday, a team of astronomers from University College London announced that they detected water vapor in the atmosphere of a super-Earth planet outside own solar system. This is the first time water has been detected in the atmosphere of an exoplanet that is not a gas giant, which the researchers say makes it the most habitable exoplanet currently known.
