Big congratulations to Ian Nepomniactchi on winning the Jerusalem and thus booking his spot for Candidates 2020! All it took was a draw in the second final against Wei Yi to seal the deal. Currently, 7 Candidates slots have been filled and 1 remains - which as per reports will be a organizer wild card for Kirill Alekseenko owing to his stellar 3rd place finish at the FIDE Grand Swiss. This means Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who finished 3rd in the World Cup and the Grand Prix cycle, will unfortunately have to miss out on the Candidates berth. ( Niki Riga/World Chess/FIDE)

A 96-move win over Wei Yi in the first final of the Jerusalem has put Nepomniactchi within striking distance of a candidates spot via the Grand Prix cycle (and MVL on the brink of agonizingly missing out on Candidates 2020). All eyes on the second final today as it could very well give us seventh candidate!

The semi-finals of the Jerusalem have begun, and the game Nepomniachtchi vs Vachier-Lagrave has a peculiar position on the board. Shall we call this the diamond centre!? Link

Alexandra Kosteniuk's stunning form continues as she wins the Monaco Women's in a super-tight finish, only a few weeks after clinching the Euro Rapid and Euro Blitz very recently! In the final round, Koneru Humpy beat none other than the leader prior to the final round Alexandra Goryachkina while Kosteniuk won her game against Elisabeth Paehtz. As a result, a three-way tie emerged between Kosteniuk, Humpy, and Goryachkina. However, Kosteniuk's superio...r tie-break scores meant that she clinched the title with Humpy finishing as the runner-up and Goryachkina taking the third spot. Big Congratulations to Kosteniuk! As Viswanathan Anand turns 5 we decided to compile 12 of Vishy's greatest games from over the years! It was a herculean task to say the least and we are well aware that we might have missed out on a host of other interesting games played by the 5-time World Champion. Nevertheless, we are hopeful that you'll enjoy this selection and have a great time studying and analyzing these games. Don't forget to let us know your favorite Anand game of all time!... Link
