MVL I think the important thing is to play well. And so far, apart from the day before against Wang Hao, I think I have played reasonably well. I'm quite happy and I hope to continue this trend. (Source FIDE)

Anish Giri It was a conflict of interest for me today as on one hand I wanted to win, of course. But on the other, I would want Grischuk to make all the draws, so that the spirit leaves from within me towards him! And finally the evil in me won! (Source FIDE)

To mark Vasily Smyslov's 99th birth anniversary, check out his spectacular game against Kottnauer played in 1946. Smyslov is remembered for his positional play. But just like every other great player, he was well-versed with all aspects of the game! Here, it's a fierce attack!

After a 7-hour marathon, Anish Giri wins his game against wildcard Kirill Alekseenko! Interestingly, this is Giri's first-ever win in a Candidates tournament! In a game that seemed drawn for the longest time, Kirill blundered in a Knight game and eventually had to resign on move 98. Link

Wang Hao, if he would go back to the time when he was a kid and change something about his prep This is a very big question. Because in this case, I would probably not start a chess career! I would have probably done something related to the financial markets. (Source FIDE)

Caruana, on being 1.5 points behind the leader Nepo Yeah, it's not a great situation. But still, we have pretty much an entire tournament to go. We have 8 rounds - that is normally like a full tournament. But 1.5 points is also a lot of ground to make up. (Source FIDE)

Nepo Definitely not feeling okay. I actually wanted to make some kind of a quick draw today. I was never against it until I got this (winning) position. I got a couple of tests done and both were negative. In general, the whole atmosphere doesn't help you feel healthy. (Source FIDE)

Fabiano Caruana I'm not sure if I have anywhere to return to after this tournament as I may be stranded somewhere, and I'm not exactly sure where! The US state has sort of said that American citizens wouldn't be able to come back if they do not come back right now. (Laughs) I'm not exactly sure but I'm not really thinking right now about where I'll have to go at the end of this event. (Source FIDE's broadcast)

Happy 51st birthday to the genius Vassily Ivanchuk, unarguably one of the greatest players to have never become the World Champion. that in 1988, Chucky became a GM title and also reached the World Top 10? While a rating of 2625 in those days was sufficient to enter the top 10, achieving both those feats in the same year speaks volumes about his meteoric rise and talent, doesn't it!
