On the occasion of Boris Spassky's 83rd birthday, here is a great game from his landmark 1969 World Championship triumph over Tigran Petrosian. This was the 5th game of the match and his 2nd consecutive win at that point - the game that gave him the lead for the first time in the match!

Unfortunate scenes today at the Gibraltar Masters as Mamedyarov had to withdraw from today's round due to illness. As this was the 8th round, he couldn't opt to take the half-point bye either. Currently, it is unclear if he will be playing the remaining two rounds of the event. We wish Shakh a speedy recovery and hope that we see him in action during the final two rounds! How often do you see an opening position with the lone king in the open and the rest of the pieces stuck on the last rank? Check out this game from the Gibraltar Challengers where White executed a picturesque king hunt!

We wish the legendary trainer and analyst IM Alexander Nikitin a very happy 85th birthday! Did you know that Nikitin was a long-time coach and second of none other than the great Garry Kasparov? Recently, he also wrote a book about his experiences titled Coaching Kasparov Year by Year and Move by Move. How many of you have read it or are planning on reading it!? Congratulations to Ju Wenjun on winning the tie-breaks of the 2020 World Women's Championship, thus clinching the prestigious title for the third time on the trot! Yes, it's a hat-trick of World Women's titles for Ju Wenjun! It requires a massive amount of mental strength to bounce back after a disappointing loss in game 12. But Ju Wenjun showed why she's the worthy world champion by maintaining her nerves and clinically winning the tie-breaks with one win and three draws! ( FIDE)
