A heartfelt apology to cherished tournament players for the unexpected delays and hassle yesterday. FunMasterMike has some words to share with you all, please take a moment to read this, and we will have a much better formatted tournament today that will be more fun! Link Hi Parents,Saturday was not the best day for many people in the chess world, but mostly, we know it was a long and frustrating day for your children. As someone who has been trying to grow scholasticchess for 2 I know that I let you down. I have also been competing in US Chess national events since 1986 and Saturday's event did not live up to the standards you are used to andexpecting. Please accept my heartfelt apology as a director of ChessKid. Your kids may know me as the funny guy in the videos, but right now I would do anything to put a smile back on yourkids' faces. So, let's try.Me, my team , and leadership from US Chess met for several hours after the event and we've crafted a plan to make the most out of things. At the end of the day, I think that's what chess issupposed to teach you personal responsibility and managing situations that may not be ideal. Here's the plan for tomorrow and beyond The issues that plagued the K-5 sections today are not likely to have an easy fix, so US Chess and ChessKid are abandoning plans to continue with match commands to play rounds 3-5. First and foremost, we want a chess-filled day on Sunday. Less stress, more chess. There is no adjustment at all to 6-12 grade sections on Link They will play rounds 5-7 at the scheduled times as normal. Prizes and all other procedures will remain as advertised for grades 6-12. Instead, there will be a shorter replacement event for K-5 with more rounds to play Sunday. This event will use ChessKid's automated tournament pairing system, which will not be subject to the issues that prevented a proper event today (for those thatcompeted in the August event, it will be similar to that). All players who entered grades K-5 of the Showdown will get a complete refund from US Chess. There is no need to request it. Those refunds will be processed next week. All players who entered grades K-5 of the Showdown will receive 4 months of free gold membership from Link Any played games that were completed in grades K-5 of the Showdown will be rated by US Chess. This replacement event Sunday will begin at 8:45am Pacific/11:45am Eastern. This is to ensure that parents/kids have the time to read and adapt to the changes. The replacement event is completely free and will be 5 rounds of 1 It is expected to last 2.5 hours. The replacement event is open to any K-5 player who was in the Showdown. Even if you withdrew before seeing this, youre still free to participate! Here's the full explanation of how to join an event on ChessKid in live chess server. In addition, it is even easier to log in and click these links to enter the tournament lobby 5th grade Link 4th grade Link 3rd grade Link 2nd grade Link 1st grade Link K Link You can enter the tournament lobby at any time but the "join" button (registration button) will only be enabled 3 before the round 1 starts (so 8:15am Pacific/11:15am Eastern). Stay in the tournament when each game is done. Don't go to other areas of ChessKid and don't withdraw. You can watch other games inprogress from your section when done. The next rounds will start once all games from the existing round have finished. There are no set round times. Your kids can spend the unexpected "free time" at the beginning of the day from 11: Eastern to 11:3 Eastern watching a live "bonus lesson" from FunMasterMike on Link At 12: US Chess Director of Events Boyd Reed will join the show to discuss the technical issues from yesterday for full transparency Here's a detailed step by step, please read:How To Join A Live Tournament on ChessKidClick on the Fast Chess button to find the tournament:To be able to play in the tournament, you must join the tournament. Click the Join button, when it's active (it only activates 3 before actual Tournament Start Time) to JOIN and enter the Tournament.Once you've successfully joined, STAY IN THE TOURNAMENT LOBBY and your game will start when Round 1 begins. If you do not get a game, your system may have lost connection to the server.Refresh your browser just in case! F5 button on Windows, and CMD+F5 on a Mac.Refreshing will ensure your browser screen stays active and any games that have started will display. If your system has frozen, restart the browser, or you may even need to restart your computer. As long as you return to Fast Chess before the game is over, you should be able to continue. In addition, I am personally creating the "FunMasterMike My Fault Cup" (forgive me for not calling this an "Annual" event, I sure hope it is not). Open only to any child who played or registered for the K-12 Showdown in Grades K-5 Completely Free 6 sections (K-5) based on grade Top 5 in each grade qualify for a Mini-Camp with FMM where they each get a game reviewed that they played in the "FMM My Fault Cup" Other prizes to be announced Automated tournament pairings for faster event, will likely last 3 hours Saturday January 9, more details and registration coming this weekThanks again for your understanding and for helping us make the most of a less than ideal situation. If 2 has taught us anything, I hope it has taught us patience and understanding.Along with US Chess, we pledge to continue to help your child grow and learn from the great game of chess.Kind regards,Mike Klein aka FunMasterMike Link Chief Chess Officer
