Synth City has fallen under the spell of a madman; Maximus the Profane leads an occult congregation to do his bidding. Vikki, a local journalist, is the only one to escape Maximus' thrall. Aided by her lifelong demonic protector, she seeks the assistance of a scorned detective and Gerald, a mysterious sniper. This year's Summoning class deals in mystic, larger-than-life conjured weapons. Their final assignment is to best the Adversarial Advisor, a magical shield that can withstand even the most lethal blows, in combat. If the might of Lihua, Emmaline and Jacques is unable to conquer the Adversarial Advisor, they will fail to graduate and be sent back to their villages, shamed and stripped of their powers.
