Look upwards tonight, Terraformers, as the Southern Taurids meteor shower reaches its peak visibility! With a fair amount of patience, even a novice observer of the night sky can see 5 or more meteors per hour depending on their location. The origin of these meteors will appear to stem from the constellation Taurus, but they will dance across the sky in every direction. Let us know if you see any tonight or have in the past! :

That's right! Choice A, the Boomerang Nebula, is the coldest place in the known universe. Also known as the Bowtie Nebula, this protoplanetary nebula can be found 5,000 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus and boasts temps of 1 Kelvin ( -458 Farenheit.) Did YOU guess correctly, terraformer? :

US Navy officials confirmed this week that images shared by To The Stars Academy do in fact feature Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. Tom Delonge, founder of both blink-182 and To The Stars, is the mastermind behind this revelation and government admittal. However, for this to have happened days before the "Area 51 raid" likely fueled the desire for some to travel to the base. So tell us, Terraformers, did YOU make the trip? And what exactly do you think *all the small things* in those photos are?! :

Hubble has once again provided data that has led to incredible news! Using this data, astronomers closely analyzed the host star's light filtered through planet K2-18b's atmosphere and found the molecular signature of water vapor! This is possible due to K2-18b being located in a habitable zone, AKA the region around a star where the temperatures of a rocky planet would allow the existence of liquid water (which could possibly pool on the surface.) Located 110 LY away, this p...lanet is 8X the mass of Earth and therefore has a significantly higher surface gravity than what we're accustomed to. This exoplanet orbits a small, red dwarf star that is much cooler and more active than Sun, which may have a strong effect on the planet's environment and atmosphere. The presence of water vapor suggests that hydrogen and helium may be present in the atmosphere as well. Despite the excitement of this incredible discovery, we have no way of knowing just how habitable K2-18b is. However, with future tech like the James Webb Space Telescope, we may be able to determine whether or not the Earth is in fact unique.

The University of Arizona team managing the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's HiRise camera shared this incredible image recently. In this rare capture, you can see Mars' north polar layered deposits (AKA its North Pole) experiencing the effects of seasonal climate change. Each spring, the sun casts its light and radiant warmth upon the side of the stacked ice layers. This creates instability and permits frozen chunks to go on the ride of their life down a 1,640 foot (500 meter) cliff. A massive cloud of dust mixed with ice in a multitude of textures and reddish hues is the end result, and gosh darn is it wallpaper-worthy. :

I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're habitable, yet to fail nonetheless. It's frightening. Turns the paradise to jelly. I ask you, to what end? Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives in expert mode all the same.:

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of mankind's first steps onto the Moon. Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were strapped into the Apollo craft on July 16, 1969 and within 11 minutes entered orbit. The astronauts' 4-day journey to the moon (+4 on return) was spent inside the Apollo's crew compartment, roughly the size of a minivan. At one point, unknown alarms rang and unexpected issues were faced, yet the astronauts' persevered they made it to the M...oon. After touching down a fair distance away from their planned landing zone, Armstrong was the first to step onto the Moon's surface. His "one small step" was actually a 3.5 foot leap, but we love the quote all the same. Twenty minutes later, Aldrin exited the module and the astronauts spent over two hours taking photographs, setting up experiments, and collecting samples. On the 24th of July, the return entry found great success as it splashed into the Pacific Ocean. Barring some details, such as the dinner menu and bathroom practices, this was a truly historic event. A worldwide broadcast allowed an estimated 650 million people to view the landing on their televisions. The US experienced a massive boost in both its confidence and technological prowess. And the Saturn V rocket, which propelled the Apollo spacecraft with 7.6m lbs of thrust, remains the most powerful and largest rocket built.
